Understanding the Treatment

What Is Lymphatic Drainage — and Why Does It Matter?

Your lymphatic system is your body's primary drainage network. It moves fluid, clears waste, reduces inflammation and supports immune function. When it becomes congested — through illness, hormonal shifts, surgery, chronic conditions or simply the accumulation of daily stress — fluid and toxins build up in the tissue.

You might recognise this as heaviness, puffiness, persistent aching, skin that doesn't bounce back, or fatigue that doesn't lift. These aren't symptoms to push through — they're signs the system needs support.

Lymphatic drainage is a hands-on treatment that gently stimulates the lymphatic vessels and nodes to restore flow, reduce congestion and allow the body to clear what it's been holding. At NuVue, this is done through the NuVue Protocol — a clinical method that takes this much further than a standard massage.

You may notice after a session:

  • Reduced puffiness and fluid retention
  • Lighter, less heavy limbs
  • Clearer, brighter skin
  • Reduced bloating and abdominal congestion
  • Improved energy and mental clarity
  • Reduced pain and inflammatory symptoms

Results vary by individual. Many clients notice a difference from their first session — complex conditions typically benefit from a regular treatment plan.

The NuVue Difference

Clinical Sequencing. Deep Nervous System Release.

Standard lymphatic massage is gentle, localised and typically targets one or two areas. The NuVue Protocol is something different — a full body, clinically sequenced treatment that opens the lymphatic system in the specific order it communicates.

This matters because the lymphatic system is not a series of isolated zones — it is a connected network. If you open one area without first creating space upstream, the fluid has nowhere to go. The NuVue Protocol follows the system's own logic: every session, every time, in the correct sequence.

"When you open the whole system — including the face — inflammation clears effectively and nothing is missed. That's the difference between managing symptoms and actually moving things."

— Abby Mortimer, Founder

  • Face included as part of the sequence
  • Follows the lymphatic system's own communication order

NuVue wood therapy tools
Maderotherapy

What Are the Wooden Tools?

Wood therapy — also known as maderotherapy — is a technique originating in Colombia more than 150 years ago. It uses purpose-built wooden instruments of different shapes and weights to work with the lymphatic system at a deeper level than hands alone can reach.

At NuVue, we use our own branded tools — each designed for a specific purpose: working directly into the fascial layer to release adhesions and restrictions, breaking down congested fluid and fibrous tissue, stimulating deeper lymphatic flow and helping the body contour and release in a way that hands-only treatment cannot replicate. Because the fascia surrounds every lymphatic vessel, releasing it is often the key that allows fluid to finally move.

The pressure is therapeutic — you will feel it working. It is not a relaxation treatment, but it is not painful. Many clients describe the sensation as deep relief: the feeling of something finally moving that has been stuck.

Who This Treatment Is For

Conditions We Treat

The NuVue Protocol is particularly effective for complex, multi-layered conditions that have not responded well to mainstream approaches. If you have been told your symptoms are "just how your body is" — this is worth trying.

You do not need a diagnosis to book. Many clients come simply because something feels off and they haven't been able to get answers.

Your Visit

What to Expect at Your Appointment

Before you arrive, you'll complete a brief consent form online — we review this ahead of your visit so we already know a little about you when you walk in. There's no lengthy intake process on the day.

When you arrive, your practitioner will give you a brief overview of the session and answer any questions, then you go straight into treatment. Sessions run 55 or 85 minutes — both include the full NuVue Protocol. The longer session allows for extended work on specific areas and is recommended for complex or chronic presentations.

Treatment is performed fully clothed in minimal, comfortable clothing. You'll be on the table for the full session.

Common Questions

FAQ

Is this the same as a regular lymphatic massage?

No. A standard lymphatic massage is typically gentle, localised and based on the Vodder technique. The NuVue Protocol is a registered, full body sequenced method that draws on six global lymphatic modalities and includes wood therapy tools. It is a clinical treatment, not a relaxation service.

Does it hurt?

Wood therapy uses therapeutic pressure — deeper than a gentle massage but not painful. Most clients describe it as a strong, satisfying pressure. If at any point the pressure is uncomfortable, your practitioner will adjust.

How many sessions will I need?

This depends on your presentation. Some clients notice a significant difference after one session. Chronic or complex conditions — lipoedema, hypermobility, post-surgical recovery — typically benefit from regular treatment. Your practitioner can discuss a plan at your first appointment, or you can book an Assessment for a more detailed recommendation.

Do I need a referral or diagnosis?

No referral is required. You do not need a diagnosis to book — many clients come because something feels off and they are looking for answers. The NuVue Lymphatic Assessment is available if you want a deeper clinical conversation alongside your first treatment.

Is it covered by health insurance?

The NuVue Protocol is IICT-accredited and may be claimable depending on your fund and level of cover. We recommend checking with your insurer prior to booking.
