Lipoedema is a chronic condition affecting the connective tissue and fat distribution, most commonly in the legs, hips, and arms. It affects an estimated one in ten women and is frequently dismissed as weight gain, poor lifestyle, or simply "how your body is."
For many women, it goes undiagnosed for a decade or more. If you've been told your swelling is fluid, or that diet and exercise should fix it — and it hasn't — lipoedema may be worth exploring with your GP or specialist.
At NuVue, we work with many women living with lipoedema, at every stage of their journey. Our approach is built around the full picture: the lymphatic system, the connective tissue, the nervous system, joint stability, and the individual in front of us.
You do not need a formal diagnosis to book. Many of our clients come because something feels off and they haven't yet found answers.
We don't apply a single modality to a complex condition. Depending on what a client is experiencing, we draw on a range of tools, knowledge, and therapeutic approaches.
Our registered method combining specialised hand massage and wood therapy. Clinically sequenced to follow the lymphatic system's own logic — the foundation of all lipoedema care at NuVue.
For clients where deeper thermal energy is indicated, Venus Legacy RF supports circulation, tissue remodelling, and lymphatic activity. Not a stand-alone treatment for lipoedema — but a meaningful adjunct within a broader session plan.
A significant proportion of women with lipoedema also have hypermobility. Pressure tolerance, joint stability, and tissue sensitivity are all considered in how sessions are structured for these bodies.
Lymphatic drainage is only as effective as the fluid environment it works in. We give every client practical hydration guidance, and factor fatigue and joint stability into how sessions are paced.
"When I work with a lipoedema client, I'm never thinking about one thing. I'm thinking about how the tissue is responding, what the nervous system is doing, whether there's hypermobility involved, where they are in their cycle. The treatment adjusts to all of it."
— Abby Mortimer, Founder
We work with many women following lipoedema surgery, including liposuction and water-assisted liposuction (WAL).
Advanced lymphatic drainage in the post-surgical period is critical — it reduces swelling, supports tissue healing, and minimises fibrosis in the recovering tissue. The sooner lymphatic care begins after surgery, the better the environment for recovery.
We work closely alongside surgical recovery timelines and always follow the guidance of the treating surgeon. If you are preparing for surgery and want to discuss post-operative care in advance, we're happy to answer questions before you book.

We also support a growing number of clients who are managing lipoedema alongside GLP-1 medication. The relationship between GLP-1s and lipoedema tissue is complex — general fat loss does not resolve lipoedema, and rapid change can create new lymphatic demands on the body. Regular lymphatic drainage during this time helps the system manage those demands and supports the tissue through change.
Whatever is happening in your body — and whatever decisions you are making — Advanced Lymphatic Drainage should be a consistent part of your routine.
Yes — when applied by a practitioner who understands lymphatic drainage and lipoedema tissue. The concern around wood therapy in the lipoedema community comes from its misapplication: too much pressure, no lymphatic direction, no preparation of the tissue. In the NuVue Protocol, the session always begins with hand massage to open the lymphatic pathways before any wood therapy is used. Pressure is guided by tissue response, not a fixed routine. If at any point it is uncomfortable, your practitioner will adjust.
This depends on your surgeon's clearance and the type of surgery you've had. We work alongside post-surgical timelines and will always follow the guidance of your treating surgeon. If you'd like to discuss timing before booking, reach out via the contact form and we can talk it through.
Yes. We work with clients on GLP-1 medication and are familiar with the lymphatic demands this can create. Advanced lymphatic drainage is a supportive complement to this process — it is not in conflict with any medication and does not require you to stop treatment.
Yes, and we account for it. Hypermobility changes how we approach pressure, positioning, and the pacing of a session. Please mention it when you book or in your intake form so your practitioner can structure the session accordingly.
For clients managing lipoedema, we generally recommend building towards a regular routine — weekly or fortnightly depending on your presentation, budget, and goals. Your practitioner can discuss a plan at your first appointment, or you can start with a Lymphatic Assessment for a more detailed recommendation.
No. You do not need a formal lipoedema diagnosis to book. Many clients come because something feels off and they haven't yet had answers. A NuVue Lymphatic Assessment is available if you'd like a deeper clinical conversation alongside your first treatment.
If you have complex conditions or want to understand what's happening in your body before committing to a treatment plan, the Lymphatic Assessment gives you a full clinical picture alongside your first treatment.
